FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

It is hard to believe we have passed the ½ way mark of Term 2. A big thank you to all families who attended our Year 1 to 6, parent/teacher interviews. It is such an important part to connect home and school. Our Preps are holding their interviews this week and next.

Social Media

We are starting to receive reports of an increase in the inappropriate use of social media sites outside the school gates. As documented in our Student Code of Conduct all social networking platforms have legal age restriction limits. Age restrictions on social media are in place to assist in keeping our children safe, we ask that as parents you support the school by adhering to these restrictions to help reduce the chance of cyberbullying from occurring.

Musgrave Hill State School does not endorse or support students under the age of 13 accessing social media, as 13 is the legal age stipulated for accessing the many social media sites. In the words of Dr Michael Carr ‘they do not have the neurological maturity to manage their digital footprint’.

More information can be found at the Office of the Children’s E Safety Commissioner at;

Parents should follow the following tips:

  1. Know which social media your child uses.
  2. Discuss with your child who their online friends and followers are. Only be friends with people online who you know in the real world.
  3. Take a proactive approach and establish clear and agreed rules for your child’s internet use.

Student Safety - Pick up and Drop off

We are seeking your assistance to effectively manage the drop off zone and to improve efficiency. Can you please ensure your name tag is attached to your sun visor on the passenger side of the car. If you require a new name tag, please notify the office or one of the staff on duty in the Pick-Up Zone.

Drop off / pick up zone please, note the following guidelines when using the zone:

  • The drop off zone is strictly no parking.
  • Parents dropping their children off in the morning are asked to drop their children at the drop off zone and move on.

If you’re using the pickup zone in the afternoon, we ask you to do the following:

  • Stay in your car.
  • Have the car unlocked.
  • Teach your child/ren how to do up their seat belts
  • If possible, move baby capsules to the right-hand side of the car so we can enter children safely in the left-hand side. Children are not to walk out onto the road to enter the car on the right-hand side.
  • Have your child’s name tag on your sun visor, to assist us to call children.
  • Please do not get out of the car to put bags in the boot.

Mother’s Day Stall

Our Mother’s Day stall was a great success, the children loved the independence of choosing their own gift. Thank you to Sally for organising this service. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped on the day.

Report Card Preparation

Report Cards will be emailed home on Wednesday 21st June. Please note Report cards will not be distributed prior to this date.

To ensure that parents/carers receive their child’s report card we need to update family contact details. If your contact details have changed, please contact the school office. Where students reside in two homes, it is important that all family members have the correct information listed with the school, so both parents/carers will receive a report card via email.

To ensure you receive your child’s report card please add the following email to your safe senders list so the report card email isn’t sent to the Junk folder.

ENRICHMENT NEWS

Musgrave Hill’s Speech Competition – date changed to Week 9

This term I am excited to announce that we are having our second annual Speech Competition.

This is an optional extra-curricular opportunity for our students.

All students in P-6 are invited to participate in one of the following three categories:

  1. Soapbox – 1 min
  2. Poetry – 2 min
  3. Speech– 2-3 min

As this is an extra-curricular opportunity, students are to prepare and rehearse everything at home. Parents/guardians can help with these preparations.

At this stage, I will group entrants into two age groups P-2 and 3-6. If there is a lot of interest there will be heats and then a final competition.

Please read the attached letter as it has the category information to help you decide which category your child would like to enter.

If you would like your child to enter the competition please send me an email cledw5@eq.edu.au to tell me the full name of the student, class and which category they will be entering.

Looking forward to another exciting event at Musgrave!

Kind regards,
Candiece Ledwidge - Enrichment Coordinator
