Parent/Teacher Interviews
Please ensure you take up the opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher. It is so important for parents and teachers to connect and work together for the benefit of the children. These interviews allow for the strong relationships between home and school to continue to grow and prosper, so if you have yet to confirm a time, please make this a priority.
Year 1 to Year 6-: Interviews
are scheduled to commence Week 5.
Prep-: They will be conducting their interviews
over a two-week period Week 6 and 7.
Mother’s Day
It is my hope that all of our amazing Mothers, Grandmothers and Carers have a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday. The contribution you all make to your children is immense and should never be underestimated. Every mum deserves to be spoilt rotten for the magnificent job they do each and every day.
I would also like to acknowledge and thank our volunteers and Sally for all your hard work running our Mother’s Day Stall this week. I know from the many discussions I have had this week with students they were very excited with their shrewd purchase of their gift for Mother’s Day.
Attendance-: Every day counts, every minute counts
There are still too many students who are having frequent days off and this can definitely have a bearing on their academic progress. This table below certainly highlights how regular absences can impact students and their schooling.

Does arriving late for school impact on your child’s education?
Our first bell goes at 8.40am and students should be ready for Meet and Greet. Children are required to be in class ready to start the school day at 8.50am. It’s important that your child/ren arrive on time to school, so they are ready to start the day and are engaging in the morning routines.

Education Queensland- Fire Ants Message
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries are working with the Department of Education in a treatment program across South East Queensland schools to stop the spread of fire ants.
Fire ants are one of the world’s most invasive pests and they have the potential to devastate our environment, economy and the outdoor way of life we know and love. To stop the spread of fire ants, the Department of Education is collaborating with the National Fire Ant Eradication Program to manage fire ants across schools within South East Queensland. This important work will help protect our schools and community from the dangers posed by fire ants. all Queenslanders have an obligation to manage biosecurity risks. The Department of Education is meeting its obligations by managing fire ants on land it owns or manages. to treat their yards to support eradication goals. For the latest information on community projects or for more information about fire ants visit:
An initial pilot program has treated 46 schools across the Logan, Ipswich, Somerset and Gold Coast City local government areas (Metropolitan and South East education regions). This will expand over the coming years to include additional schools. The treatment consists of applying two rounds of an insect growth regulator which sterilises the fire ant queen and prevents new ants from maturing into adults. These types of products are widely used in mosquito control programs, cockroach treatment and pet flea collars and when used according to instructions, are not harmful to humans, pets or wildlife.
The first round of treatment occurred in early 2023 and round two is being completed during April and May. The fire ant bait is being applied by experienced pest management technicians.
The school treatment program supports efforts to eradicate fire ants within South East Queensland by suppressing the fire ant population in areas until eradication treatment takes place. Under the Biosecurity Act 2014
The National Fire Ant Eradication Program is also running a range of community projects to provide residents in selected suburbs with free fire ant bait

ENRICHMENT NEWS
Musgrave Hill’s Speech Competition – date changed to Week 9
This term I am excited to announce that we are having our second annual Speech Competition.
This is an optional extra-curricular opportunity for our students.
All students in P-6 are invited to participate in one of the following three categories:
- Soapbox – 1 min
- Poetry – 2 min
- Speech– 2-3 min
As this is an extra-curricular opportunity, students are to prepare and rehearse everything at home. Parents/guardians can help with these preparations.
At this stage, I will group entrants into two age groups P-2 and 3-6. If there is a lot of interest there will be heats and then a final competition.
Please read the attached letter as it has the category information to help you decide which category your child would like to enter.
If you would like your child to enter the competition please send me an email cledw5@eq.edu.au to tell me the full name of the student, class and which category they will be entering.
Looking forward to another exciting event at Musgrave!
Kind regards,
Candiece Ledwidge - Enrichment Coordinator

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 1 BLUE
In 1 Blue, students are learning about Information Texts and how to write their very own information report.
Students are learning about the features of information texts and they can identify them in books from the library. Here they are finding the different features in books.

Here is 1 Blue learning to write their own information report. They’re labelling a diagram of a koala using lots of adjectives. They also used their newly introduced Year 1 writing lines to write sentences about koalas.

Later this term, students will choose their own Australian animal to write an information report about. In Week 6 the Year 1s will go to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary for their excursion and see these animals in their habitats.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 3 MAGENTA
In HASS this semester, 3 Magenta have been identifying the importance of different celebrations and commemorations that are unique to different groups in our community. Mother’s Day is a special day of the year. It’s a day where we acknowledge and honour one of the most important, if not the most important role in our familial relationships – mothers. For some of us that’s paying tribute to our actual mothers, for others it’s honouring those mother figures in our lives, and for many it’s being recognised for being a mother in your own family. 3 Magenta worked collaboratively with 3 Violet to present an assembly performance celebrating our mums. As part of our presentation, we displayed portraits of our mothers.
