FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
With only 2 weeks left of Term 1, I think it is important to remind families that every day at school counts. Each year we set a target of 95% attendance and unfortunately each year we fall short of this magic number. Our overall attendance percentage for Term 1 2023 is sitting at 91% which is well below par. So, I am setting a challenge for all our families. Let us improve our attendance rates in Term 2 and have our students here at school learning every day.
P&C AGM
Last Thursday, our P&C held our AGM. Our Executive P&C members for 2023 are-:
- President-: Melissa Holland
- Vice-President-: Adele Wallace
- Secretary-: Alana Carson
- Treasurer-: Sally Grassick
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive Team for their support of the school and for volunteering to take on these important roles. The school is lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers who give their free time for the betterment of Musgrave Hill State School and I look forward to working with the P&C team throughout 2023. Please give them your full support throughout the year.
School Photos
School photos are fast approaching with all students and classes scheduled for Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th March.
A reminder that students should wear their full school uniform including black shoes and white socks on the day they are scheduled for photos.
Filming or taking photos of Students or Staff at School Events
Speaking of photos. I know there are many opportunities throughout a year for parents, other family members and friends to come together and celebrate the success of individual students. With our school photos coming up, I thought it a great opportunity to again remind everyone about the protocols around the filming of students/staff or taking photos of students/staff.
Our school supports that parents will take footage of their children participating in school events for personal record. Parents need to be aware that some families and staff have legitimate reasons for prohibiting their image to be taken or published. Parents should be mindful that the publication of images, including social media, requires the permission of all parties; students, parents, staff and other people who may appear in the images. Therefore, in the best and safest interests of all students and staff please only film or take a photo of your own children and please do not post any images of school events on social media. I know you will all understand and support this request.
NAPLAN
Musgrave Hill State School will be conducting the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) online, along with every other school in the nation. The 2023 NAPLAN test window is Wednesday 15 March to Monday 27 March 2023.
(The test is online and will be spread over many days with different strands being scheduled on separate days). I encourage parents/caregivers of our Year 3 & 5 students to assist their children’s efforts by ensuring a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast for scheduled testing days. It is also imperative that students arrive at school on time.
Our Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in NAPLAN online from the Wednesday 15th and continue through until Thursday 23rd.
Queensland Road Rule 168 – No parking signs
This sign has been a source of confusion for our school community. We have been working with the Council to seek clarification. The information we received states that during the times indicated on the sign - 8 to 9am and 2.30 to 3.30 strictly NO PARKING is permitted. The 20 minutes is purely indicating how long a car is permitted to be (with driver inside) in the drop off and pick up zone before having to leave and re-join the queue. A driver is not allowed to leave their vehicle at any stage. As you move up the queue the sign changes to 2 minutes, this means you are only able to stay in the queue for 2 mins before having to leave and re-join the queue.

TUCKSHOP NEWS
Please remember If your child is away and you have placed a tuckshop order please call and let me know, if I’m not available please leave a message.
The Tuckshop has now enforced a monetary limit for each student due to time restraints in the play time. We allow each child to purchase one item for each break. The most expensive item on the “over the counter menu” is $2.50 so therefore children do not need to bring more than a $5.00 note or change to school.
It is against school rules to share money or food.
