FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Welcome back to what I am sure will be another very exciting year. To our existing families, it is great to see you back ready to go in 2023. To our new families, a big Musgrave Hill welcome to you. You have chosen to be a part of an amazing school and community.
After the second week of our school year has drawn to a close, I am happy to report that our students have settled into their new classes with work and routines already fully established. This smooth start is a credit to the staff here at Musgrave. Getting a school ready to begin each year takes a lot of hard work and a champion team of people who all deserve our thanks.
Traffic Update
Many of you would be aware of the major traffic delays we are experiencing at pick-up times at the moment. Unfortunately, this will continue for at least another week. The work at the Special School continues to run into issues, creating a snow ball effect which impacts us dramatically. I am working closely with the Special School and Regional Office in attempts to solve some of the congestion issues we are going through. I continue to ask everyone to please drive with patience, after all, it is the safety of our students that is our highest priority. I encourage you to park away from the school and walk to collect your students. The less cars we have in the pick-up zone or around Nakina Street at the moment the better.
I am hoping we see some relief soon. I truly appreciate your understanding and support.
Staffing 2023
Apart from our regular teaching team, 2023 introduces a few new faces to Musgrave Hill State School-:
- Grace Miller- Prep
- Cherie McKean – Year 3
- Renee Jones – Year 3 (Friday)
- Hayden Smith – Year 6
- Paul Ugarte – Instrumental Music Teacher
We also welcome back Lauren Lycakis from Maternity Leave, Gloria Brennan (ECDP) and Tamara Hall (DP) from Extended Leave.
Let’s talk
In school communities, communication is vitally important. Information to school and information from school help us to work in partnership with you to give the best possible opportunities for all students. To help facilitate this, our three Deputy Principals are each responsible for a sector of the school to provide an enhanced service delivery. By looking after a sector of the school, each Deputy Principal will be able to form a deeper, more informed understanding of your child’s needs and progress. I encourage parents to work closely with their specific Sector Deputy and make them your next point of contact if you wish to discuss issues beyond the class teacher level. The sectors for each Deputy Principal in 2023 are –
- Prep and Inclusion- Ms Fiona Zielke
- Year 1 and 2 - Ms. Bridget Bartolo
- Years 3 to 6 - Ms. Tamara Hall
Name Signs
To make the Pick-Up Zone operate more effectively can we ask that you have the name of your child/ren clearly and largely displayed on your dash. We are more than happy to make these signs up for you, just let the ladies in the office know you need a sign and we will get this to you ASAP.
Uniforms
A massive thank you to our families for your patience with our delay in uniform deliveries and it has been wonderful to see all our students fully decked out in the appropriate uniform. Can I please remind everyone that black shoes are a part of our uniform policy and it is important that all students are wearing the correct foot wear?
The leading sport shoe companies all have a variety of black shoes available in their range now as they realise more and more schools insist their students wear black shoes as part of the uniform policy. I have also spoken to many Podiatrists and have been assured that they too have a black shoe range that would accommodate any child with orthotics or other foot issues.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the school if you are experiencing any financial difficulties, as we are more than happy to support families wherever possible to ensure all students are in correct uniform and the right black shoes in 2023.

FINANCE NEWS
How does finance work in Musgrave Hill State School?
We will no longer be accepting cash payments in the office. The office will now only accept EFTPOS.
Excursions
Your child will receive a note with all the excursion
details.
You will receive an emailed invoice for the excursion.
If you wish your child to attend please pay using the Bpoint link on the
bottom of the invoice as this is the fastest and most secure method of
payment.
If your child doesn't attend the excursion you will receive an emailed
adjustment note to inform you that the original invoice has been removed
from your child's account.
Statements
During the year you will receive at statement to inform you of your account balance.
When checking the statement remember that a positive balance (+) amount is owed to the school and a negative balance (-) amount is a credit on the account.
If you have a credit (-) on the account you can request to apply these funds to excursion invoices.
Thank you to the families who have already paid for their Student Resource Scheme in full/ part payment or through deductions from Centrelink.
If you are paying over three terms, the first payment is required by the 28th February.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the office if you have any queries.

ENRICHMENT EDUCATION
Enrichment Education at Musgrave Hill State School
Hi everyone, my name is Candiece Ledwidge and one of my roles at Musgrave is the Enrichment Coordinator. This year I am looking at continuing some of the events we did for the first-time last year including the Speech Competition, STEAM Challenge Day and STEAM Fair as well as adding in some new and exciting activities.
Our goal is to provide a variety of extra-curricular experiences that will complement the teaching and learning that happens in our classrooms and further enrich the lives of our young learners.
Some activities will be planned for at school and all students will participate eg the STEAM Challenge day but others are completely optional and will need to be done at home.
2023 is going to be a great year for ENRICHMENT so please keep checking our school newsletter, Facebook page and school Dojo for upcoming events.
TERM 1 ENRICHMENT EVENTS
In term 1, I am going to be highlighting ‘WRITING’ as an enrichment focus area.
There will be two new events to promote writing in our school.
Both are voluntary (extra-curricular) for students and both will be done AT HOME if families choose to participate. Please see information below.
Event 1: Week 3,4,5,6
Creative Writing Challenge
I will present a weekly stimulus for students to write about – students will be able to choose any text type to write (for example narrative, poem, explanation, description, procedure, recount, persuasive text) but will be limited to 100 words. VCOP will be strongly encouraged.
V stands for VOCABULARY
C stands for CONNECTIVES
O stands
for OPENERS
P stands for
PUNCTUATION
The stimulus will be presented at Meet & Greet on Tuesdays. I will then add the stimulus to our Facebook page and school Dojo pages. Students will have until the following Tuesday morning 9am to hand in their work.
All writing is to be done at home and students will be able to submit it either hand written or typed. I will put an inbox in the library for entries to be placed. Students will need to ensure their full name and class are on their entry. I will select one entry from P, 1/2, 3/4 & 5/6 each week to award a certificate.
EVENT 2: Week 7,8, 9
Creative Writing Competition
Students will have 3 weeks to write a creative piece about any chosen theme/idea. It will need to be either a poem, 100-word story, short story or memoir. This will also be done AT HOME if students choose to participate. More details to come.
Winners will be published in the school newsletter. Winners will also have their work ‘published’ and on display in our school library.
I look forward to seeing how our budding authors go this term!

TUCKSHOP NEWS
Welcome back, I hope you all had an amazing holiday and a big welcome to our new families - you are going to love Musgrave. For those who don’t know me my name is Sally and I work in the Tuckshop and Uniform Room. If you have any tuckshop or uniform queries you can give me a call on 5644 5555 and follow the prompts for the Tuckshop and Uniform Shop.
All tuckshop orders need to be placed via the Qkr! App by 9.00am each morning. We are no longer taking any payments over the counter. If your child receives a ‘Musgrave Way Award’ simply write a note with your child’s name and class and what they would like and attach the award to the note, you can add extra cash if needed to fulfill the order.
Children can bring cash to school to purchase Ice Blocks, Chips, Drinks and Muffins at first and second break.

Our tuckshop runs by the ‘Traffic Light System’ which means we have

Please remember to label all of your children’s containers and lunch boxes. We have a lost property bin near the tuckshop which I will be checking each week. If the items are named they will be returned to the child.
UNIFORM NEWS
Please remember all orders must be placed on Qkr! The orders will be delivered to the classrooms no later than 48 hours after the purchase. Qkr! roughly takes around 24 hours to process and send through the order to me. If you place the order on Monday before 9.00am I will not see the order until 7.00am Tuesday morning. I deliver uniforms twice daily between 7.30 -8.00am and 12:00-12:30pm. If your child has not received their item please contact the uniform shop and let me know. If you are unsure about sizing, please ask your child to come and see me and I can arrange a fitting and send you the details. If you receive your goods and the sizing doesn’t seem right, simply return the item with a note via your child to the uniform room and I can swap for a different size. If you would like to come in and see me in person the Uniform Shop is open from 1:45-2:30pm Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Attention Current Year 6 Students
We will be placing our second and final order for senior shirts this term. Please keep an eye out for a note from your Teacher, we are expecting our first order to arrive in 2-3 weeks.
Please remember we only order what you order, so please double check your sizes as there are no returns or refunds.
Please ensure your uniforms are clearly labelled with a permanent marker so you have a better chance of having them returned to your child if they are lost.
