FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
We have officially passed the half way mark of the term and we are rapidly drawing to a close of yet another school year. The students have been very busy since the start of the term, learning new content and commencing their final assessment tasks in preparation for their end of year report card.
Just reminding parents that we email report cards home. This will occur on the Wednesday of the last week of Term. What do we require from you? Please ensure that you have provided the ladies in the office with the most up to date contact and email details, this will enable the new process to function more efficiently and effectively.
School Opinion Survey Results
Just recently our school received a copy of the results from the annual School Opinion Survey. This is where students from Years 4 to 6, parents from our community and staff are given a series of questions to respond to.
They cover many themes including:
- Fairness and clarity
- Safety
- Partnerships
- School Culture
- Teaching and Learning
Each question is scored and then our school result is compared to the South East Regional average and also against the average result across Queensland. Our results are extremely pleasing and we continue to surpass Region and State Averages.
There is always room for improvement and as a school we will endeavour to ensure those areas are a priority so we can continue to be the school of choice in our local area.
Final Call out for Prep 2023
If you are an existing family of our school with a child beginning Prep next year and you have not enrolled them yet, please make sure you contact the office urgently and fill in the enrolment form so your child is factored into our 2023 classes. Prep places are in extremely high demand for next year and to get the class numbers and mix right we need to know as accurately as possible who will be attending Prep in 2023.
COVID Update- Returning to work or school
Queensland Health strongly recommends that you should stay home to isolate while you have any symptoms of an acute respiratory infection. You should not return to work or school until:
- your acute respiratory symptoms have substantially reduced AND
- you have gone for at least 24 hours without a fever without using fever-reducing medications such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Before returning to school or work, you may be required to notify your employer or education provider that you have been diagnosed with, or had symptoms of, COVID-19 and you should follow any additional requirements put in place by your employer or education provider to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
In addition, if returning to work or school within 7 days after receiving a positive COVID-19 test result, you should:
- wear a face mask covering your nose and mouth whenever you are in an indoor setting outside the home – masks are recommended for children over the age of 12, and for any children under the age of 12 where it is safe for them to do so
- avoid contact with people who are a higher risk of severe disease
- wash your hands regularly
- practice good respiratoryhygiene (such as covering your cough)
- advise others you have been/are in contact with to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if they become symptomatic.
To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, some employers or education settings may impose restrictions or conditions on people who have recently tested positive to COVID-19 or had any symptoms of an acute respiratory infection. Here at Musgrave we ask you adhere to the above guidelines and to please continue to inform the school of any positive cases.

Musgrave Hill’s Speech Competition
This term I am excited to announce that we are having a Speech Competition. This is an optional extra-curricular opportunity for our students. All students in P-6 are invited to participate in one of the following three categories:
- Soapbox – 1 min
- Poetry – 2 min
- Speech– 3-4 min
As this is an extra-curricular opportunity, students are to prepare and rehearse everything at home. Parents/guardians can help with these preparations.
At this stage, I will group entrants into two age groups P-2 and 3-6. If there is a lot of interest there will be heats and then a final competition. Please read the category information below to help you decide which category your child would like to enter.
Category information:
- Soapbox – Do you have a strong opinion about something? Well…get on your soapbox and share it with us! You have one minute to express exactly how you feel about any particular subject of your choosing. With only one minute, you will need to be concise yet emotive. We expect to see lots of expression, hand gestures and loads of persuasive language. Stand up on our Musgrave Soapbox and let your thoughts be heard.
- Poetry – learn a poem and share it with the audience. Will you choose a traditional poem from an Aussie Icon like Banjo Patterson or something more contemporary? You could even write your own! Poetry can be very emotive and/or entertaining. How can you wow the judges and present it in an engaging and entertaining way? Hand gestures, actions, facial expression and clever use of your voice will do the trick!
- Speech – this 3 - 4 minute speech can be about any topic you like. You can choose to persuade, inform, entertain, motivate, inspire or amuse. It is completely up to you. You can dress up or bring in props to support your speech if you like.
Important Dates:
Week 2-6 Students prepare the speech in their chosen category
Week 7 & 8 Heats (IF REQUIRED – TBA) During Morning Tea – student audience will be invited in to view
Week 9 Finals – Whole School Audience with Judging Panel (possible invitation to parents/caregivers)
If you would like your child to enter the competition please send an email to cledw5@eq.edu.au to tell me the full name of the student, class and which category they will be entering.
Looking forward to another exciting event at Musgrave!

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 6 EMERALD
6 Emerald this term is looking at persuasion and advertising! They are creating a persuasive multimodal advertisement. Choosing their target audience, their high modality words and their persuasive devices are all part of this process. Students are choosing both accommodation and activity options that they feel their target audience would be interested in. This will then be turned into a PowerPoint advertisement.
