2023 Enrolment Information

Very soon we will commence the very complex process of organising next year’s classes. Currently we are working on ‘best guess’ figures and as is the case with all allocations (staffing and classes), final make-up will depend on actual numbers of students and will not be finalised until Day 8 of 2023. We aim to get class formations as accurate as possible by the end of term, to avoid large changes at the beginning of next year.

To assist us with this process could you please take just a couple of minutes to complete the enrolment information form sent home this week. It will make such an incredible difference to ensuring a smooth start to 2023 here at Musgrave Hill. I thank you in advance for your support in this matter. Please complete the information below and return to the school office.

NOTIFICATION OF EXTENDED HOLIDAYS AT THE START OF 2023

School resumes on Monday 23rd January 2023. If your child will not be returning to school until after this date, due to extended holiday, please advise the office. Extended absence forms are available from the school office.

World Teachers Day and Appreciation Week

Today is World Teacher’s Day and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each one of our dedicated staff and let them know how much I appreciate them and what a privilege it is to work with them each day. While today is officially World Teachers Day, it isn’t just teachers who make up our valuable workforce. It takes many people to run a school and to provide a learning facility which children feel proud of and want to learn in.

So here on “The Hill”, we decided to have an Appreciation Week, where we recognise and show our appreciation for all the wonderful work that our dedicated team of multi skilled staff here on The Hill provide our students each and every day.

Monday = Tuckshop Appreciation Day
Tuesday = Teacher Aide & Chappy Appreciation Day
Wednesday = Cleaners & Groundsmen Appreciation Day
Thursday = Office Staff Appreciation Day
Friday = Teachers & Guidance Officer Appreciation Day

Day for Daniel

Today the Musgrave Hill students and staff celebrated the annual Day for Daniel. The Daniel Morcombe Foundation created Day for Daniel to help raise the awareness and importance of child safety within schools and their wider community. To support this worthy cause, our school was a sea of red T-shirts, which symbolises the foundations beliefs surrounding the prevention and awareness of child safety.

Prep 2023 - Enrolment Reminder

Enrol right now. Don’t wait for tomorrow, next week or next month! The 2023 Prep Year is filling fast. It is now time to crunch numbers and fill the waiting list classes for 2023. To avoid disappointment, I strongly urge parents to enrol their eligible children right now. If you are an existing parent of our school, in catchment or with a continuing sibling next year, please finalise any 2023 enrolments immediately.

Musgrave Hill’s Speech Competition

This term I am excited to announce that we are having a Speech Competition. This is an optional extra-curricular opportunity for our students. All students in P-6 are invited to participate in one of the following three categories:

  1. Soapbox – 1 min
  2. Poetry – 2 min
  3. Speech– 3-4 min

As this is an extra-curricular opportunity, students are to prepare and rehearse everything at home. Parents/guardians can help with these preparations.

At this stage, I will group entrants into two age groups P-2 and 3-6. If there is a lot of interest there will be heats and then a final competition. Please read the category information below to help you decide which category your child would like to enter.

Category information:

  1. Soapbox – Do you have a strong opinion about something? Well…get on your soapbox and share it with us! You have one minute to express exactly how you feel about any particular subject of your choosing. With only one minute, you will need to be concise yet emotive. We expect to see lots of expression, hand gestures and loads of persuasive language. Stand up on our Musgrave Soapbox and let your thoughts be heard.
  2. Poetry – learn a poem and share it with the audience. Will you choose a traditional poem from an Aussie Icon like Banjo Patterson or something more contemporary? You could even write your own! Poetry can be very emotive and/or entertaining. How can you wow the judges and present it in an engaging and entertaining way? Hand gestures, actions, facial expression and clever use of your voice will do the trick!
  3. Speech – this 3 - 4 minute speech can be about any topic you like. You can choose to persuade, inform, entertain, motivate, inspire or amuse. It is completely up to you. You can dress up or bring in props to support your speech if you like.

Important Dates:

Week 2-6 Students prepare the speech in their chosen category

Week 7 & 8 Heats (IF REQUIRED – TBA) During Morning Tea – student audience will be invited in to view

Week 9 Finals – Whole School Audience with Judging Panel (possible invitation to parents/caregivers)

If you would like your child to enter the competition please send an email to cledw5@eq.edu.au to tell me the full name of the student, class and which category they will be entering.

Looking forward to another exciting event at Musgrave!

P&C News

Bake-Off Competition

Thank you so much to all the talented bakers who sent in their marvellous creations on Thursday for our first ever Bake-Off Competition. We had 107 entrants in total and might I say they were all absolutely amazing. The children that entered will all receive a free ice block from the Tuckshop for their amazing efforts. Because of the amount of entrants, I had to enlist a few extra taste testers to make sure we could get through them all. Every entrant was judged by three separate judges and all judging was completely anonymous. The judges had a score sheet and a plate of treats that were numbered.

I would like to thank all our magnificent judges for the phenomenal job they did. I’m thinking next year we may have to change it to a Junior and Senior Bake Off. As promised we had one winner from each category, and after lots of counting and cross checking and possibly going cross eyed, we finally had our three winners.

Best Cookie – Jeremiah 2 Indigo “Anaconda Cookie”
Best Slice – Luca 1 Jade “Bubble Mint Slice”
Best Cupcake – Grace M 6 Gold “Shattered Glass Cupcake”

Thank you once again to everyone, all our proceeds are going towards some new upgrades around the school.

Colour Run Prizes

I have sent through the final order for the Colour Run Prizes and should see them in 2-3 weeks. The prizes will be delivered to the children’s classrooms as soon as they arrive.

Our next fundraiser will be later in the year and I promise it will be very YUMMY! so keep an eye out for that.

Thank you once again for your support.

A WORD FROM OUR CHAPLAIN

Hi MHSS Community,

The year is flying by on our run down to Christmas and we are already in Week 4 of Term 4. Where has the year gone?

A little but more about myself: I’m at MHSS Tuesday and Wednesday each week and my room is normally open each of these days during the first break, I am on the oval for the second break.

All students are welcome to come to my room during these times or see me on the oval.

I’m happy to have a chat to all students and to help recognise me I have included a photo above. I am usually wearing a black or red shirt with Chappy on the back.

If there is anything I can do to support you or your family please contact the school, who can pass your contact details on to me.

Breakfast Club

A reminder that The Breakfast Club has restarted at school. It is each Tuesday morning between 8 - 8:30am at the school hall deck. All students are welcome.

Light Party

A local church is hosting a Halloween alternative – Light Party, next Monday afternoon 31st October and all are welcome.

Please see the details in the brochure below.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 5 RUBY

This term 5 Ruby has been exploring films and have begun to write their own film critique based on The Lion King. After watching the 2019 version of The Lion King, we headed in to the computer lab to have some fun!

Every student had a go creating their own ‘word splash’ based on their own interpretation of what themes they recognised within the film. We had a great time playing with the word generator and the students discovered the more they generated a word, the larger it became on their word splash.

As a class we discussed which themes in the film were more prominent than others and as you can see in the finished splashes, these words are larger than the rest.

This was a really fun and creative way for the students to explore the film, use film specific adjectives and be able to visualise themes that stood out in The Lion King.
