FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Happy Holidays – Term 4 Commences on Tuesday 4th October
Term 3 finishes today and the Colour Run was a great way to finish a phenomenal term. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. I hope you all have a wonderful and refreshing break. Please note that school restarts on Tuesday, 4 October as there is a Public Holiday on the Monday. Please help keep our school safe by staying out of the school grounds over the holidays and reporting any suspicious trespassers or behaviour to the police or School Watch on 13 1788.
Staffing Update
Our amazing Deputy Principal 3 to 6, Tamara Hall, is taking extended leave in Term 4. Kylie O’Loughlan will be her replacement. Ms O’Loughlan started on Wednesday and will stay with us until the end of the year. I am sure you will all join me in wishing Ms Hall a wonderful break.
Filming or taking photos of Students or Staff at School Events
As we have had a number of big community events occurring at the school of late, in particular today’s Colour Run, I feel it is important to remind everyone about the protocols around the filming of students/staff or taking photos of students/staff. Our school supports that parents will take footage of their children participating in school events for personal record. Parents need to be aware that some families and staff have legitimate reasons for prohibiting their image to be taken or published. Parents should be mindful that the publication of images, including social media, requires the permission of all parties; students, parents, staff and other people who may appear in the images. Therefore, in the best and safest interests of all students and staff please only film or take photos of your own children and please do not post any images of school events on social media. I know you will all understand and support this request.
Queensland Road Rule 168 – No parking signs
This sign has been a source of confusion for our school community. We have been working with the Council to seek clarification. The information we received states that during the times indicated on the sign - 8 to 9am and 2.30 to 3.30pm strictly NO PARKING is permitted. The 20 minutes is purely indicating how long a car is permitted to be (with driver inside) in the drop off and pick up zone before having to leave and re-join the queue. A driver is not allowed to leave their vehicle at any stage. As you move up the queue the sign changes to 2 minutes, this means you are only able to stay in the queue for 2 mins before having to leave and re-join the queue.
I will pass this information onto the Special School as I understand some families are parking and leaving their vehicles to collect students from that school.
Road Rule 168 No parking signs
(1) The driver of a vehicle
must not stop on a length of road
or in an area to which a no parking sign applies, unless the driver –
(a) is dropping off, or
picking up, passengers or goods; and
(b) does not leave the vehicle unattended;
and
(c) completes the dropping off, or picking up,
of the passengers or goods, and drives on, as soon as possible and, in
any case, within the required time after stopping.
Maximum penalty – 20 penalty units.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 4 MAROON
This term in Year 4, we have been learning all about Queensland’s endangered Mary River turtle. We have learnt about its appearance, habitat, diet and life-cycle. Additionally, we have researched the many different threats it is facing in the wild. We investigated how humans have impacted this wonderful species and how we can support this remarkable reptile now and into the future.
We have researched these key areas in small groups and shared our thoughts. In English, we wrote an information report on the Mary River Turtle to show our understanding.
