Newsletter Articles

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

As this is the last newsletter for the term, I would like to thank everyone for all your support as we’ve navigated COVID and flood issues this term. It has been truly appreciated by all of us at the school level. The term finishes at 3.00pm on Friday 1st April and resumes again on Tuesday 19th April. We wish all our families a safe and happy Easter holiday.

COVID Update

As we continue to have positive COVID cases within our school environment we will continue to operate with a safety-first approach. Therefore, the process and procedures we currently have in place will continue into Term 2. A reminder of the key points-:

  • Staff and students who wish to continue to wear a face mask can do so.
  • We will return to one Meet and Greet area for Years 1 to 6.
  • Prep will continue to meet in the Prep area.
  • Assemblies will return for students only.
  • Any planned incursions or excursions will be permitted.
  • Parent/Teacher meetings can resume via appointment only.

Essential to the success of all measures we put in place is that if your child is unwell or displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, they must not attend school. I cannot emphasise this message strongly enough – it is critical to keeping our school community safe.

Before School Procedures

All students need to enter via the front gate.

  • Please do not arrive prior to 8.15am, as there will be no access.
  • We will continue to have staff at the front gate to welcome students.
  • If you wish to escort your child to the Meet and Greet area of a morning, please note it is one parent only and needs to be a quick drop, kiss and go.
  • Please understand this is not the time to meet with your child’s teacher.

After School Procedures

(Please ensure your child/children know where to meet you at the end of the day).

Due to the mass exodus of students at the end of the day, I ask that parents please remain outside the school gates and follow the procedures below-:

  • If you walk, or park and walk, please collect your child/children from the Walk-up Zone which is located on the grassed area outside the Prep Building. Please wait outside the gate and ensure that social distancing occurs. Your child/children will be escorted to you.
  • If you are driving to collect your child/children, please enter the Pick-up Zone, remain in your vehicle and your child/children will be escorted to you.

Crazy Hair Day

Another highly successful Crazy Hair Day where we managed to raise $1577.45 to help eradicate Leukaemia once and for all. A big thanks to the Musgrave Community for your support. A shout out also must go out to Eziah from 6 Gold who shaved his head live at Meet and Greet.

ICAS Assessments

Due to staffing constraints and the impact on learning time, this year Musgrave Hill State School will not be catering for the ICAS assessment on campus. Instead ICAS will be providing Queensland students with the option of participating in the online tests at one of their JEM sites outside of Musgrave.

Throughout Australia, ICAS testing can be held through its division, Janison Exam Management (JEM). A JEM centre is a venue where students can sit the ICAS assessment outside of school hours. This year they will be opening a JEM centre in Queensland. Parents will be able to make bookings online to register their child at an examination facility for students who wish to participate in the annual ICAS Competitions and sit an ICAS test. The ICAS test will occur during a 2-week window in August.

Annual General Meeting for P&C

The P&C AGM was held last Friday 25th March. Our 2022 P & C Executive Team is as follows

President-: Melissa Holland
Vice-President-: Rachele White
Secretary-: Alana Carson
Treasurer-: Sally Grassick

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Executive Team for their support of the school and for volunteering to take on these important roles. The school is lucky to have such a dedicated team of volunteers who give their free time for the betterment of Musgrave Hill State School and I look forward to working with the P&C team throughout 2021. Please give them your full support throughout the year.

WHAT’S HAPPENING

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

As you may be aware, the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence was held here on Friday 18th March. The theme for 2022 was Kindness. The NDA is a catalyst for Australian schools to take a stand together against bullying. The day brings together more than 60% of schools nationwide, involving more than two million students in finding workable solutions to address bullying and violence.

Here at Musgrave, students had daily conversation starters and challenges at morning meet and greet all of week 8 to shine a light on an ever-increasing issue … bullying. I am hopeful that these challenges bought about many discussions around the dinner table at night! These activities and challenges were designed to target bullying and identify ways in which we can “empower student voice” to combat bullying and violence. Towards the end of the week, we shifted focus to Random Acts of Kindness. Wow, what a way to finish the week! There were smiles, giggles and genuine happiness throughout! Kindness - such a contagious gesture that I’m hoping will be carried on throughout the year.

TUCKSHOP NEWS

Firstly, I would like to thank all parents and carers for their support through this rather frustrating term. With supply issues, quantity restrictions, new healthy option regulations and trucks not being able to deliver to us made it very difficult to try out our new menu. I look forward to Term 2 where we can try out some of our new homemade items and bring back our old favourites. On that note I would also like to let you all know we are able to introduce breakfast back on the menu. We will have blueberry muffins, granola, yoghurt cups and pikelets all available from 8.00-8.30am daily and can be purchased with cash. We also are opening up cash sales for children at 1st break and 2nd Break for ice blocks, chips, muffins and drinks. All lunch orders will still need to be placed on the Qkr! App with a daily cut off at 9.00am.

S’More Bunny Burrows

Here is a cute little Easter dessert for you to make with your kids over the holidays. It’s not exactly the healthiest recipe but the kids will surely love it.

Ingredients:

  • 8 x tubs of chocolate pudding (I use chocolate Yogo)
  • 1 packet of Oreo cookies (crushed) you can also use Milo
  • 4 large marshmallows
  • 32 mini marshmallows
  • Cups or bowls to arrange your bunny burrows in

Method:

  1. Add one container of Yogo into your cup or bowl.
  2. Add 4 mini marshmallows on top of the Yogo and then sprinkle with 2 tbsp of crushed Oreo/Milo (enough to cover the Yogo and marshmallows) This will create the layers.
  3. Add another Yogo container, push 4 more mini marshmallows down into the Yogo so they are hidden and top with another 2 tbsp of crushed Oreo/Milo. Once again making sure you cover the Yogo completely.
  4. Assembling your Bunny Bottom:
a     Take one of the large marshmallows and roll it in your hands to make it as round as possible to resemble the bunny bottom.
b     Now take your mini marshmallow and make little snips with a pair of scissors all over the marshmallow, roughly about 6-8 times this will be the bunny tail.
c    Stick the bunny tail onto the bunny bottom using a little dab of water, this will help it stick.
d    To make the bunny feet you will need 2 mini marshmallows. Flatten them by squeezing them between your finger and thumb.
e    You can at this stage draw on the feet if you like. I use an edible marker which I purchased from Woolworths.
  5. Now you can place your bunny onto your burrow. Start by placing the bunny bottom in the centre of the burrow. Then place your 2 bunny feet just underneath your bunny bottom.

UNIFORM NEWS

I would like to take this time to thank all the parents and carers for their patience in relation to our uniforms. We still are waiting on delivery of our stock and I’m hoping that in term 2 we should get delivery of all outstanding uniforms. As soon as the stock has arrived and been counted I will deliver all backordered items to classrooms and then make the stock available on our Qkr! App.

The uniform room is currently waiting on a delivery of stock. Unfortunately, due to Covid and the recent floods we are not sure when the items will arrive. As soon as stock is delivered and counted I will be filling all the backorders, then placing the available items on Qkr!

Please make sure all your children’s uniforms are clearly labelled with their name by a permanent marker as we go through our lost property box once a week and return property to the rightful owner.

P&C NEWS

A big thank you to everyone that supported our first fundraiser for the year. It was a huge success and I hope the lucky winner doesn’t have too much of a pain in the belly from all that chocolate. A big shout out to Woolworths at Runaway Bay for once again supplying our Easter raffle prize, there was over 100 chocolate eggs!!!!!

Mother’s Day Stall

Our Mother’s Day stall is currently available on Qkr! App we have three gifts for that special lady in your life, a $5.00 Thank You Mum Pack, $10.00 Pamper Pack and $10.00 Fitness Pack. All presents will be delivered to the classrooms the Friday before Mother’s Day. Once again all our proceeds are going towards School Resources.

P&C Meeting

P&C Meeting – We just recently had our AGM Meeting for 2022 and it was great to see some new faces. Our next meeting will be next term, a time and location will be sent out closer to the day. If you have any enquiries regarding the P&C you can email PandC@musgravehillss.eq.edu.au
