FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
We are finally back in the main administration building after a week in temporary accommodation. A big thank you to our families for flexibility and understanding during this time.
Harmony Day
Harmony Week is held each year in March. It’s a time to celebrate our cultural diversity and a time to reflect on the importance of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world.
The message of Harmony Week is everyone belongs. Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Musgrave Hill State School is a culturally vibrant school and we look forward to celebrating Harmony Day on Monday 21st March. On this day, students are invited to wear traditional/cultural dress to school to show support for cultural diversity. More information provided later in the newsletter.
School Start and Finish Times
Please note the first bell goes at 8.40am and it is important that all students are in class ready to learn by the second bell at 8.50am. Please don’t drop off your child/ren prior to 8.15am.We are getting more and more students remaining way beyond the school finish time of 2.50pm. While I understand traffic congested can cause delays, I asked that you please ensure you are there to collect your children on time or as close to 2.50pm as possible.
National Day of Action
Musgrave Hill State School is proud to be an official NDA school. The National Day of Action against Bullying & Violence is where schools shine the spotlight on bullying and violence and promote ways to reduce its impact in schools and the community. It is important to note that not all disagreements and conflicts between students constitutes bullying, but persistent and targeted behaviours designed to isolate, upset or threaten a person can be considered serious bullying issues. The best way to deal with a bullying situation at school is to bring these behaviours out in the open by reporting them to a staff member.
Musgrave Hill takes any actions which upset or threaten fellow students or staff very seriously and all students are encouraged to report issues immediately so that they can be dealt with. Musgrave Hill has a lovely tone and the cases of deliberate and persistent bullying are very isolated, but if we don’t know about it we can’t fix it. Our very structured school behaviour processes ensures that complex issues such as bullying are dealt with quickly, fairly and effectively
Reminder of how the Drop off and Pick up Zone Operates
For this process to work efficiently and effectively we need everyone to do the right thing. The passenger pick up/drop off zone allows for quick pick up or drop off of children during congested peak school times.
Our staff are out the front both morning and afternoon to assist with a smooth transition through this area for all. I understand that this zone can be very frustrating at times but I ask that you please continue to respect the wonderful staff who are there simply to ensure the safety of our students.
How to use the Drop off and Pick up zone:
- Vehicles move slowly along the loading zone towards the front of the queue
- Your child/ren names should be displayed on your car dash.
- Children are called to the stairs
- Children are then escorted to your stationary vehicle
- Motorists ‘give each other a fair go’
- If your child is not there then you move to the front of the line and can stay there in your vehicle for a maximum of two minutes before you are required to move off and park or go around the block and re-enter the line.
Respect the timing:
- Do not stop for more than two minutes
- Do not park in the zone and walk away from the car
Loading bags:
- Children should be able to load their own bags into the cars and do up their seats beats, so please don’t exit the car as this can delay the flow of traffic.
- Never double park to pick up children – it is illegal and dangerous.
The Staff carpark:
Please do not use the staff car parks for a pick up and drop off for your child. This is for staff only. It is also an unsupervised area and we have already had a couple of near misses the year. It is a narrow area. All foot traffic through the car park should be on the footpaths provided – not between the cars.

TUCKSHOP NEWS
All Tuckshop orders need to be placed via the Qkr! App by 9.00am each morning. If your child receives a ‘Musgrave Way Award’, simply write a note with your child’s name and class and what they would like and attach the award to the note. We are still currently abiding by the Covid-19 rules of no payments or parents at the counter.
Looking for a fun snack to make with the kids that’s budget friendly, easy to make and the kids will love it.
Veggie Noodle Cups

- 2 packets of chicken flavoured noddles (your choice of instant noodles)
- 3 cups of grated vegetables (I use carrot, zucchini and sweet potato, 1 cup of each)
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- ½ cup light sour cream
- ½ cup chopped ham
- ½ cup of grated cheese
Method:
- Preheat oven to 180C. Spray a muffin tray with oil spray.
- Cook your noodles as directed, drain and rinse with cold water and set aside.
- Add the grated vegetables, ham, eggs, sour cream and the 2 x flavour sachets.
- Divide them up equally in the muffin tray and top with the grated cheese.
- Bake for 30-35mins or until set.
- You can serve these warm with sweet chilli sauce or salsa or simply put them in the fridge ready for the lunch boxes.
UNIFORM NEWS
The uniform room is currently waiting on a delivery of stock. Unfortunately, due to Covid and the recent floods we are not sure when the items will arrive. As soon as stock is delivered and counted I will be filling all the backorders, then placing the available items on Qkr!
Please make sure all your children’s uniforms are clearly labelled with their name by a permanent marker as we go through our lost property box once a week and return property to the rightful owner.

A WORD FROM OUR GUIDANCE OFFICER
Emergency Preparation
With the recent floods it is a timely reminder to ensure that you and your family are prepared in case of an emergency. There are simple things you can do to prepare your family for unexpected events which may occur.
Emergencies can happen at any time. They can be as large as a bushfire, flood or cyclone or as personal as a death in the family. But the better you prepare for them, the easier it is for you and your family to recover.
It is important to include your children in discussions about emergency plans for your household and family. When children know what to do in an emergency, they are more likely to cope, stay safe and provide meaningful help.
To prepare your children for an emergency, we recommend completing this checklist as a household:
- All the children in our house know what an emergency is (a serious, dangerous and scary situation where help might be needed).
- All the children in our house know how to stay calm by ‘breathing with colour’ (slowly breathing in their favourite colour and then slowly exhaling their least favourite colour to regulate their breathing).
- All the children in our house know how and when to call for help (For guidance visit https://kids.triplezero.gov.au/ ).
- We have a safe meeting place outside our house and have practised how to get there.
- We know who to call if we can’t find each other.
- We have an emergency kit packed ready to go if we have to leave our house quickly.
Be sure to contact the school and let us know if your family has been impacted by an emergent situation. It is important that your child’s teacher is aware so that they can be supported at school.

HARMONY DAY
CLASSROOM CAPERS – PREP PURPLE
Prep Purple have been very busy learning the first twelve sounds (s a t p i n m h e d c r), and the correct letter formation of these letters. We have been learning that words are made up of sounds and the students have been orally making words from the sounds learnt by segmenting the sounds (using our robot fingers), and blending the sounds together to say new words. The students are so clever, as they have been making words by segmenting the sounds in a word and putting sound tiles together to make words.
Miss Donnelly and myself are very proud of our Prep Purple students.
