FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Four wonderful weeks of the school year remain. We are excited about what can be still achieved in this time.

School Opinion Survey

Just recently our school received a copy of the results from the annual School Opinion Survey. This is where students from Years 4 to 6, parents from our community and staff are given a series of questions to respond to.

They cover many themes including:

  • Fairness and clarity
  • Safety
  • Partnerships
  • School Culture
  • Teaching and Learning

Students have 25 question items across those themes.

Parents have 26 questions across those themes.

Staff have 37 questions across those themes.

Each question is scored and then our school result is compared to the South East Regional average and also against the average result across Queensland. Our results are extremely pleasing and we continue to surpass Region and State Averages.

Below are some highlights worth sharing:

Staffing and Classes for 2022

One of the biggest challenges each year is the construction and organisation of classes for the following year. To help us be as accurate as possible and minimise any changes at the start of next year please complete the 2022 Enrolment Information note that was sent home in week 3 and return to the office. If you have misplaced the note please just let the office know if you are moving next year and not returning to Musgrave Hill in 2022.

NOTIFICATION OF EXTENDED HOLIDAYS AT THE START OF 2022 - School resumes on Monday 24th January 2022. If your child will not be returning to school until after this date due to extended holidays, please advise the office. Extended absence forms are available from the school office.

The staffing and class formation process continues right through until the first few weeks of next year. Preparation and planning is designed to limit any changes and adjustments to classes on Day 8 of next year.

Final Call out for Prep 2022

If you are an existing family of our school with a child beginning Prep next year and you have not enrolled them yet, please make sure you contact the office urgently and fill in the enrolment form so your child is factored into our 2022 classes. Prep places are in extremely high demand for next year and to get the class numbers and mix right we need to know as accurately as possible who will be attending Prep in 2022.

World Tuckshop Day - Friday 5 November

World Tuckshop Day is held each year on the first Friday in November to recognise and give special thanks to all tuckshop workers and volunteers across Queensland state schools. It also highlights the important role tuckshops play in school life.

We are extremely fortunate here at Musgrave to have Sally McWilliams as our Tuckshop Convenor, Rachele White as her trusty off sider and some other wonderful people who volunteer their time in the tuckshop and when we have big events. Our tuckshop offers busy families an easy and healthy alternative when considering lunch menus for their child/ren.

The daily efforts of our Musgrave team has been tremendous this year and we should never take their hard work for granted. Together they provide a high quality and valuable service for our school.

Thanks Ladies.

Grilled Zucchini & Hummus Wraps (feeds 6)

Are you looking for an easy dinner with all the same nutrition as a full cooked meal but half the stress, then all you need is a healthy wrap. Wraps are a staple in my household due to our busy sporting commitments. There are so many varieties and they are such a good way to sneak in some veggies. You can try a Beef Souvlaki, Peri Peri Chicken & Salad or a Roasted Veggie Delight. The options are endless. A favourite at my house is the Grilled Zucchini and Hummus Wrap. You’ll find the recipe below - I hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4 zucchinis, ends removed and sliced
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 tomatoes, sliced (or handful of cherry tomatoes)
  • 1 cup sliced red onion
  • 2 cups kale, tough stems removed
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese or swiss cheese
  • 6 large tortillas (I use spinach and herb ones)
  • 6 tablespoons hummus

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet or grill to medium heat.
  2. Remove the ends from the zucchini and slice length wise into strips. Toss zucchini in olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  3. Place zucchini directly on grill and let cook for 3 minutes, turn and cook for 2 more minutes.
  4. Set zucchini aside.
  5. Place the tortillas on grill for approximately one minute, or just until grill marks are visible and tortillas are pliable.
  6. Remove tortillas from grill and assemble wraps, 1 tablespoon of hummus, one slice of cheese, zucchini slices, 1/3 cup kale, onion and tomato slices.
  7. Wrap tightly and enjoy immediately. You can also toast these on a sandwich press.

Tuckshop will close on Friday 3rd December

The Tuckshop will be closed from Friday 3rd December for end of year stock-take and functions, although we will have vegemite, jam and honey sandwiches available in this last week of school.

Uniform News

Please remember all orders must be placed on Qkr! The orders will be delivered to the classrooms no later than 24 hours after the purchase date. If your child has not received their item please contact the Uniform Shop.

We are now taking orders for Prep 2022 Students. These orders are to be collected at the Transition Day on the 1st December.

The Uniform Shop will close for 2021 on 1st December 9:00am. This allows us to do our final stocktake for our Auditors. Please keep an eye on the newsletter to find out when we are opening in 2022.

We are currently waiting on a delivery of stock. Unfortunately, we have no Size 6 Polos in stock at the moment but once the delivery arrives I will do my best to get them to you as soon as possible.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 5 AQUA

In 5 Aqua this term we have been exploring the three main states of matter, solid, liquid and gas and their observable properties.

We have conducted some investigations to find out more about the properties of a gas. We wanted to know if gas has volume and mass, because unlike solids and liquid we usually can’t see gas. Like all good scientists we wrote an investigation question and made a prediction about what we think will happen when conducting our investigations.

It is always interesting to see if our predictions are correct then discuss what we observed during our investigations. From our observations we concluded that gas does in fact have volume and mass.
