FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Welcome back to what I am sure will be another phenomenal term on “The Hill.” We hope you all had a wonderful break. The term ahead promises to be busy and rewarding with many curriculum and extra curricula activities planned to maximise the learning opportunities for our students. We look forward to the term ahead and the continued partnership in learning between teachers, students and families.
Extremely Important – Car Parking
Park Safe Vehicles - Licence Plate Recognition (LPR)
As part of the City Parking Plan 2015 to improve parking behaviour on the Gold Coast, City Parking Officers will soon patrol the city (including key school zones) using vehicles, clearly badged as “Park Safe” vehicles. These vehicles use Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) which is camera technology fitted to Park Safe vehicles to ensure motorists are parking safely.
Park Safe will operate on school days at student drop-off and pick-up times focusing on pedestrian areas around schools. If a vehicle is found to be parked illegally the City will issue an infringement notice to the registered vehicle owner by post.
Advice for parents, carers, guardians and drivers
The City of Gold Coast (City) wants to ensure that motorists comply with school zone road rules at and around schools to achieve a safer environment for children and the broader school community. These rules also help to optimise traffic movement and safety.
Please take extra care and obey the signed parking rules when parking on the roads and streets around the school.
Offences to be aware of:
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a sign posted crossing
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a bus stop
- stopping within 10 metres of an intersection or corner
- stopping within a bus zone (bayed area)
- stopping on a footpath or nature strip within a built-up area
- stopping in a way that restricts access to a driveway
- stopping on a yellow painted line
- stopping in a loading zone
- double parking for any period of time.
Park safely and legally to avoid a fine.

2022 Enrolments-: Important
To ensure we have as accurate enrolment numbers as possible to start 2022, I will be sending home a letter next week with the youngest in the family requesting information about your child/ren’s schooling for 2022. Children who are returning to Musgrave Hill are just as important as those children who are not. Also, if you are taking an extended holiday and will not be returning day 1 of the school year, that information is also important to ensure we keep a place for your child/ren. I understand we all have very busy lives but by taking just a couple of minutes to complete this form will make such an incredible difference to ensuring a smooth start to 2022. I thank you in advance for your support in this matter.
Please return completed forms to your class teacher. If you have more than one child at the school then please return to the youngest child’s class teacher or the school office.
Parent Requests for 2022 classes
Generating our class groupings within each year level is one of the most important tasks for our school to complete each year. We are seeking the support and understanding of parents with this complex task.
We will be starting the process to consider classes for 2022 within the next few weeks. This process involves many hours of deliberation between class teachers, learning support staff and Leadership Team to form comparable, balanced classes where all students’ learning needs are respected and optimised.
Teachers will endeavour to place each student with at least one friend, on the provision that the school feels the placement is in the best interest of both students.
Parents please read the attached information and if you would like to make a request please follow the process and guidelines.
Please note that the school will not enter into any discussions where parents request for a teacher or a child to be excluded from an individual teacher’s class. All our teachers are professional and I have the greatest respect and confidence in the professional abilities of our entire teaching team. Any requests where a teacher’s name is mentioned will unfortunately not be considered.
With Parental input (if you feel it necessary) combined with the school’s comprehensive internal placement processes, the allocation of pupils to classes for next year will be smooth and thoughtful, ensuring that the success of all students is maximised.
THE CUT OFF DATE FOR PARENT REQUESTS TO BE CONSIDERED IS FRIDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2021.
Early Student Pick-Up
If you need to collect your child early from school there is no need to phone ahead. Possible delays in you arriving means that your child is losing valuable time out of the classroom. The school’s preferred option is to call your child to the office when you arrive. Please be aware it is difficult to find your child if you arrive during lunch hours for an early pick-up. Lunch hours are 11.00am - 11.45am and 1.15pm - 1.45pm.

Community Awards
On Monday 6th September Sam O’Connor MP held his annual community awards. Brooke Pearce was nominated for, ‘Teacher of The Year’. Out of 300 nominations, Brooke finished in the top five. Congratulations Brooke, this is well deserved.
One other special award was presented on the night, ‘Local Legend, for Outstanding Community Spirt’. This award went to our very own Slater Walker. His Mum Bianca and Aunty Mel, accepted the award on his behalf. During his lifetime, Slater’s story helped raise over one million dollars to fight paediatric cancer.
Congratulations to Brooke and Slater.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 6 ONYX
What’s happening in 6 Onyx?
Welcome to Term 4. We are in for an exciting term with many things on the horizon as the grade 6 students enter into their final term of Primary School. Our classroom is a hive of activity as the students begin their preparation for graduation, complete their grade 6 learning journey and begin their transition into becoming high school students.
Our Term four journey for English has already begun with students commencing their first assessment task for our advertising unit.
During our science lessons, we have begun to have some engaging discussions about the requirements for life on Earth. Our class made some interesting humanoid diagrams of beings that could survive on Mars. I was amazed at the excitement levels of the students as I informed them that the assessment for science this term involved growing mould.
Also, congratulations to our new class captain for term 4, Rose K.
Mr Croucher - Class Teacher
KINDYLINQ
KindyLinQ were very lucky to be welcomed as VIP guests at Ashmore Optical. Our KindyLinQers had their eyes tested, enjoyed morning tea and a scavenger hunt through Ashmore City Shopping Centre. Tim the optical technician showed them how glasses were made using special machines. The optometrists David and Rick have children of their own and made the experience as smooth as possible for our KindyLinQers and their families. It is important for children to have had their first eye test by the time they are 3 and again before they start school.
Regular eye tests help to maintain eye health. All eye tests are bulk-billed through Medicare.

Here is a healthy breakfast idea you can make the night before. This one is a hit in my household for those early morning sports weekends. You get to sleep in that little bit longer knowing you’ve made breakfast the night before and it is so good for you. There are so many flavour combinations for these overnight oats. You can try apple and cinnamon, banana and choc chip, strawberry and vanilla. The options are endless. I hope you all enjoy my favourite ‘Banana Choc Chip’.
Banana Choc Chip Overnight Oats
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup rolled oats
- 1/2 Cup milk
- 1/3 Cup vanilla Greek yoghurt
- 1 banana sliced
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp dark choc chips (I add these the next morning)
Method:
- Mix all ingredients except for the choc chips together in a bowl.
- Place the mixture in an air tight container or mason jar. (If you don’t have either of these a bowl is fine with glad wrap, you need a nice seal).
- Place in the fridge and leave until the morning.
- Once you have opened your container you add the dark choc chips and some sliced banana as well.
- Eat and enjoy.
