FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
We have officially passed the half way mark of the term and we are rapidly drawing to a close of yet another school year. The students have been very busy since the start of the term learning new content and commencing their final assessment tasks in preparation for their end of year report card.
Just reminding parents that we email report cards home. This will occur on the Tuesday of the last week of term.
What we require from you - Please ensure that you have provided the ladies in the office with the most up to date contact and email details as this will enable the new process to function more efficiently and effectively.
Please note that the school year finishes on Wednesday 9th of December.
NAIDOC Week 2020
This week was NAIDOC Week, which recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. This year’s theme Always Was, Always Will Be recognises that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were Australia’s first explorers, first navigators, first engineers, first farmers, first botanists, first scientists, first diplomats, first astronomers and first artists. Through acknowledging and celebrating NAIDOC Week 2020 from 8th -15th November we have the opportunity to embrace the history of our country that dates back thousands of generations.
On this very significant week Musgrave Hill SS is proud to recognise and acknowledge the traditional owners of this land and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and particularly acknowledge the Elders within our school community.
School Times for 2021
As you are all aware, the traffic around our school has become increasingly busier with each year that passes. To compound this issue further, this year Southport Special School is finishing their school day at 2.45pm, the same time as our Year 3 to 6 students. This has caused even more congestion throughout 2020.
We have been able to reduce some of this impact with the introduction of a 2.30pm finish time for our Prep to Year 2 students. This was implemented because of the COVID restrictions but we discovered that is has also assisted greatly in easing some of the traffic issues.
This has prompted many conversations around the possibility of changing our school times permanently to help in reducing some of the traffic congestion.
A strong consultation process is the key to any major decisions or changes that may be implemented. For this reason, I am asking that you take the time to complete a short survey and have your say. The link for this survey will be sent via email in the coming days. Your opinion matters.
Tuckshop Day – Friday November 6
Tuckshop Day is held each year on the first Friday in November to recognise and give special thanks to all tuckshop workers and volunteers across Queensland state schools. We ensured the hard work and unwavering commitment of Sally and Rach was acknowledged and celebrated in true Musgrave Hill style. The ladies do an amazing job and we thank them for everything they do for our students, staff and community.
Final Call out for Prep 2021
If you are an existing family of our school with a child beginning Prep next year and you have not enrolled them yet, please make sure you contact the office urgently and fill in the enrolment form so your child is factored into our 2021 classes. Prep places are in extremely high demand for next year and to get the class numbers and mix right we need to know as accurately as possible who will be attending Prep in 2021.
Remembrance Day
Wednesday 11th November 2020 marked 102 years since the end of World War 1. It was a good opportunity to pause, reflect and consider the work and sacrifice that our service men and women give to ensure our safety and freedom. The First World War was also the first time that the young nation of Australia sent soldiers to war. It was during these conflicts that the tradition of the ANZAC spirit was born.

STUDENT RESOURCE SCHEME - 2021
If you have previously opted in to the SRS your participation is assumed for the remainder of your child's enrolment, unless you inform the school otherwise by completing a new participation agreement form.
The SRS Invoices for 2021 will be issued on 18/11/2020.
We invoice parents early to enable them to have a longer period in which to complete payments ready for the start of the new year.
The best payment option is the BPOINT link at the bottom of the invoice because the payment can be made in full or in parts. This link can be used multiple times.
If your student has a credit on their account, that credit will be applied to their 2021 SRS invoice.
Please note the office is not taking cash payment at present but EFTPOS is available.
The office will be closed for all payments after 27/11/2020 for end of year financial closure procedures.
TUCKSHOP NEWS

Sushi Day
We have another Sushi Day next Thursday 19th November. All orders must be placed via Qkr! by 9.00am on Wednesday 18th November.
Lost Property
There are still a number of lost property items outside the tuckshop. Can you please remind your children to come and see if any items belong to them as unfortunately at the end of the year I will have to throw or donate any items that are left.
Graduation Lunch – Year 6 Students only
