We are in the home straight
Welcome back to the final term of 2020, I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable holiday break. How quickly this very different year has gone and as we begin our final term I continue to be so impressed and proud with how well we as a community have been able to weather the COVID storm. The pandemic restrictions and guidelines around Queensland have changed somewhat over the holiday period and as yet I have not received any new operating guidelines for schools for Term 4.
We will begin our new term with the same procedures we had in place at the end of Term 3 and will continue to monitor and adapt these as new information becomes available. I once again would like to thank everyone in our community for the support they have shown our school and your continued respect for the procedures we have put in place to keep staff and students safe. With your continued assistance we will end the year strongly with a clear focus on our students. The end of the year is in sight and we still have much work to do - it is hard to believe that in 8 more weeks we will be breaking up for Christmas.
2021 Enrolments - Important
To ensure we have as accurate enrolment numbers as possible to start 2021, I will be sending home a letter next week requesting information about your child/ren’s schooling for 2021. Children who are returning to Musgrave Hill are just as important as those children who are not. If you are taking an extended holiday and will not be returning day 1 of the school year, that information is also important to ensure we keep a place for your child/ren. I understand we all have very busy lives but taking just a couple of minutes to complete this form will make such an incredible difference to ensuring a smooth start to 2021. I thank you in advance for your support in this matter. Please return completed forms to your class teacher. If you have more than one child at the school then please return to the oldest child’s class teacher.
Colour Run
The Colour Run has been moved to the 23rd October to allow more families the opportunity to pay and return permission forms. We want as many students as possible to be a part of this fun and exciting event.
Attendance – Everyday Counts
I would like to remind all parents the importance of your child/ren attending school every day. We are also noticing an increased number of students arriving late to school. It is vital for your child’s learning that they are here at 8.40am each day. Let us unite on the notion that ‘EVERYDAY COUNTS’ and see if we can achieve our target of 95% attendance for Term 4.
Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Change to the Last 2 Days of School
You may have seen in the news media late last term that two new student free days have been added to Term 4 for 2020. In recognition of the outstanding efforts of school staff during the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two days of the school year, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th December have been declared student free days by the Queensland Government. Our school will be closed on these days and school will finish for students on Wednesday 9 December. View the updated school calendar at the link below.

NAIDOC WEEK
Jingeri Jumbelungs (Hello friends),
Musgrave Hill State School is celebrating NAIDOC Week 9 – 13 November this year. Due to Covid-19 restrictions it will look a bit different. Classes will be involved in a variety of activities to foster understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures. Over the week students will be involved in developing their understanding of the First Nation Peoples of this area, including Yugambeh language words and learning about the Kombumerri People.
NAIDOC Theme 2020 Always Was. Always will Be. The 2020 National NAIDOC Week theme has been developed to shine a focus on the length of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander occupation of Australia. Additionally, the NAIDOC theme seeks to get teachers, students and community to explore and learn about, and appreciate the wealth and breadth of Indigenous Nations, languages and knowledges of this continent.
Congratulations to Kaito and Amy from 2I who won the NAIDOC banner competition earlier in the year!
If you would like more information, please contact Annette Vlaanderen or Luke Kennelly, Indigenous Champions within the school.
We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we learn, work and play, is the land of the Kombumerri people. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging. We would also like to further extend that respect to all present and their ancestors.
