FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Blink and you missed it! That’s how quickly Term 3 seems to have passed. It has been another wonderful term and I am sure students and teachers alike are looking forward to a well-earned break.
NAPLAN Results
Schools across Australia have received their NAPLAN results from the assessments conducted in May. We are very pleased with our overall school results this year which again are equal or above State and National averages in all areas. This is a credit to the Musgrave Hill team and reflect the excellent curriculum, teaching strategies and our culture of enthusiastic student engagement. Congratulations to our hardworking students, their teachers and their families. Individual student reports have been sent home to all Year 3 and 5 students who participated in NAPLAN.
A quick summary of our whole school performance is below-:
BLUE indicates equal/similar to the performance of the Nation
GREEN indicates significantly above the performance of the Nation
Well done Musgrave!
Planning for 2019
Planning for 2019 is in full swing....... Last week we held our ‘Prep Classroom Experience’ which was very well attended by our future Prep students and families. The feedback from parents has been extremely positive and they are looking forward to joining our Musgrave family in 2019. Over the past month we have also commenced our Prep enrolment interviews. These interviews are all held with the aim of ensuring that our prep students make a positive start to their schooling here at Musgrave Hill State School.
It is important that we get our enrolment numbers for 2019 as accurate as possible so I ask you to please do the following:
- Ensure that you have enrolled your child for Prep if they are to commence next year
- Let anyone you know who intends to attend Musgrave Hill State School in 2019, not only in Prep but all year levels, to come and get an enrolment pack to complete as soon as possible
- Please inform the office ASAP if your child will be leaving Musgrave Hill and therefore will not be attending our school next year
Our Prep classes and the other year levels are filling fast so the earlier people apply and enrol the more likely they will be able to attend our fabulous school. Last year we trialled sending out letters informing the students of their classes before the end of the year. This is only possible if we know how many students we will have and therefore how many classes. Your support in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Uniform - Black Shoes
Firstly, I would like to thank all families who continually support our Dress Code Policy by ensuring children are in the correct school uniform each and every day. Our Dress Code Policy is fully endorsed by the P&C and a full copy can be found on our website. This week we sent out a friendly reminder to those students who were not wearing the correct footwear and asked that this please be rectified for the start of Term 4. The school is more than happy to work with families to ensure this occurs.
Parents and Students on School Grounds Before and After School
I understand that due to our parking situation that many parents arrive early in the afternoon to ensure they get a car spot. As you can appreciate the afternoon sessions are still critical learning times for our students and having parents outside classrooms or near classrooms can be distracting for both students and teachers. I also understand that it is important for parents to connect with each other as we have a very supportive community but can I ask that these gatherings and conversations take place outside the school grounds to avoid any disruptions to our student learning.
We are also having a number of families remaining in the school grounds while their children are playing on playgrounds and around the buildings. Once you have collected your child/ren can you please exit the school grounds as soon as possible. I really appreciate your support in this matter.
Happy Holidays – No Holiday to Start Term 4
Term 3 finishes this Friday and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. I hope you all have a wonderful and refreshing break. Please note that school restarts on Monday, 8 October and there is no public holiday to begin the term – this holiday falls in the middle of the school break this year. Please help keep our school safe by staying out of the school grounds over the holidays and reporting any suspicious trespassers or behaviour to the police or School Watch on 13 1788.
Have a safe and happy holiday and see you in Term 4.

SPORTS TALK
Broadwater Athletics
Congratulations to Agapetos L-F, Gina C and Jayden C-B that represented the Broadwater District at the South Coast Trials last week. All students represented the Broadwater extremely well and we are super proud of their sporting achievements. Jayden finished 10th in the Discus, Gina just missed selection by finishing 5th in the 100m and I am thrilled to announce that Agapetos has made selection into all three of his events, Shot Put, 100m and 200m. This means that he is off to Cairns to compete at the State Titles for the South Coast Region. Congratulations and we wish you the very best of luck for this next round.

Y.M.C.A - BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Good day to all our Musgrave Hill families
We have Vacation Care fast approaching.
If you are new to the school or would like some further information on how to enrol your child into the service, please drop by and see us in D Block, we would love to assist you.
We have some exciting days booked in for the holidays; like heading to the Science Centre in Brisbane and having 2 Grasshoppers Jumping Castles brought in for an incursion.
Our parents have been kindly donating items to support our communities and educating our children on the importance of giving and helping those less fortunate. They have also participated in learning about gratitude and being grateful for what they have. We have some very thoughtful children in our service and you all must be proud of them.
It was wonderful to have Rusty the School Chaplain come and speak with our children about the community. She gave the children a “Chappy Challenge” of gratitude to complete so I can’t wait to see the results from this.
We are continuing to embed ‘help in the community’ into our program, so please do not hesitate in asking how you can help if you would like to assist us and our children’s growth in this area.
