FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Premier and Minister Visit
Musgrave Hill had the privilege and honour of having the Premier of Queensland, Annastacia Palaszczuk and the Minister for Education Kate Jones visit our amazing school on Wednesday this week. They spent their time talking and mingling with Year 5 students and teachers before addressing the media. It certainly was an exciting event and allowed others to see what we here already know and that is Musgrave Hill State School is one phenomenal place to be a part of.
School Opinion Survey
Parents/Caregivers, school staff and senior students will be given the opportunity to participate in this year’s School Opinion Survey. Access details and a letter explaining the process has been sent home via the youngest in the family to Parents/Caregivers. Staff and students will complete their surveys over the coming weeks. The online survey opens on the 31st July and will remain open until the 25th August. We value your feedback so if you have the time please have your say.
Sports Day
Who would have thought of a horse? It was an amazing team spirit atmosphere created at this year’s Athletics Carnival and that is a credit to everyone’s hard work or perhaps should I say everyone’s competitive nature. Pelican took out the overall Team Spirit Award for this year while Dolphin were the overall champions. I have received so many comments from parents and community members regarding how wonderful a day it was. A big thank you to Katie Halsall for all her hard work and effort in organising this great event. I would also like to acknowledge all the people behind the scenes that made this day possible. It was great to see so many parents and extended family members supporting and cheering on not only their own children but all the students who competed on the day.

National Collection of Data on School Students with Disability
Collecting this data helps teachers, principals and education authorities support the participation of these students on the same basis as students without disability.
All Australian Governments have agreed to work together on the annual collection of data on school students with disability. All Australian schools participate in this annual data collection.
The data provided to the Australian Government is aggregated data only. Please be reassured that the Department will not provide to another organisation any data that can identify an individual student. The only data being collected at the school level to be reported nationally is the:
- number of students in the school who are provided with an adjustment to address a disability;
- level of adjustments we provide for those students; and
- broad category of disability.

Athletics Carnival Wrap up!
A huge congratulations to all students for the way in which they conducted themselves at last Friday’s Athletics Carnival. I was absolutely blown away with the amount of House Spirit on show throughout the day and I must thank all the staff who have worked so tirelessly over the past few weeks to ensure that it was achieved. There were some amazing individual achievements made, house records smashed, outstanding sportsmanship shown, house rivalries fuelled and an absolute dominance demonstrated by our Champion House – DOLPHIN!! I was simply overwhelmed with not only the house spirit and effort put in by students, but the support from parents, friends and family was fantastic to see and I thank you all very much for your time last Friday.

CLASSROOM CAPERS – 6 GOLD
Term 3 in 6 Gold
6 Gold have launched straight into another busy term! We have been reading Boy Overboard and working hard on our book critique writing skills, maths, grammar and reading. We are also learning about migration to Australia in History. In Science we are exploring the environmental conditions that affect the growth and survival of living things and have started by digging traps behind the oval to see what critters are living there. In Health, we are very lucky this term to have Mr Clinton Toopi, a retired professional rugby league player and owner of “Fabulous Kids” health program, come into our classrooms to deliver an extensive 8 week program with a focus on health, nutrition and exercise. We had lots of fun on Athletics Carnival day and it was great to see an abundance of team spirit and good sportsmanship!
Mrs Kennon – Classroom Teacher
CLASSROOM CAPERS – 2 VIOLET
In History, 2 Violet are learning how technology has changed people’s lives.
Along with our Year 2 friends, we went on an excursion to the Beenleigh Historical Museum. There we experienced many different things from the past. We did some washing using a washboard and tub. We also sat in an old classroom and learnt what school was like in the ‘old days’. Did you know that students did not have to wear shoes to school?
We learnt how difficult it was to saw wood and also got to sit on an old Fire Engine. We all had a fantastic day and learnt so much.
