FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Welcome back to what is sure to be another exciting year! To our returning families, it’s wonderful to see you all back and ready for another great year. And to our new families, a warm Musgrave Hill welcome! We’re thrilled to have you join our amazing school and community.
As we wrap up the second week of the school year, I’m happy to share that our students have settled into their new classes wonderfully. The work is already underway, and routines are in full swing. This smooth start is a true reflection of the dedication and hard work of our Musgrave team. Preparing for a new school year takes a lot of effort, and we’re incredibly grateful for the amazing people who make it all happen!

Home/School Communication
Research consistently shows that when parents and teachers collaborate, children’s educational outcomes improve. A strong home-school partnership not only enhances academic success but also supports children’s overall well-being, builds parents' confidence, and gives teachers a sense of support.
Effective communication between home and school is a crucial part of fostering these partnerships. Our primary channels of communication include email, phone, and Class Dojo (for those teachers who use it). If you change your email address at any point during the year, please inform the office staff so we can update our records. Please note our Newsletter goes out fortnightly and should be a must read for families as it contains important information and messages.
Staff members will respond to emails, Dojo messages, and phone calls promptly during business hours. A small number of staff may choose to respond outside of these hours, but this is not expected. Please note, responses to communication will typically be given within two school days, and staff are not obligated to reply after 4:00 pm or before 8:00 am.
Let’s talk
In school communities, communication is vitally important. Information to school and information from school help us to work in partnership with you to give the best possible opportunities for all students. To help facilitate this, our three Deputy Principals are each responsible for a sector of the school to provide an enhanced service delivery. By looking after a sector of the school, each Deputy Principal will be able to form a deeper, more informed understanding of your child’s needs and progress. I encourage parents to work closely with their specific Sector Deputy and make them your next point of contact if you wish to discuss issues beyond the class teacher level. The sectors for each Deputy Principal in 2025 are –
- Prep and Inclusion- Ms Fiona Zielke
- Year 1 and 2- Ms. Bridget Bartolo
- Years 3 to 6 Ms. Kylie O’Loughlin
Staffing 2025
Apart from our regular teaching team, 2025 introduces a couple of new faces to Musgrave Hill State School -
- Fairlie Thompson – Year 3 White
- Ami Lin – Teacher Aide Prep Orange
We also welcome back Ben Driscoll from extended leave.
Traffic Around the school and the safety of our students
Unfortunately, as Principal, I have no jurisdiction over traffic around the school. My role is to encourage and engage with the school community to request parents are aware of and follow the road rules and school rules relating to driving, parking, drop off and pick-ups around the school. It is the parents' responsibility to know and please follow the road rules.
When parents double park, stop in the middle of the road and call for their kids, or park in the pick-up zone and exit your car to collect you child, you put students and staff at risk. For the safety and well-being of everyone please follow the protocols below-:
Walk-Up Zone
- If you walk, or park and walk, please collect your child/children from the Walk-up Zone which is located on the grassed area outside the Prep Building. Please wait outside the gate and your child/children will be escorted to you.
Pick-Up Zone
- If you are driving to collect your child/children, please enter the Pick-up Zone, remain in your vehicle and your child/children will be escorted to you.
- Please do not get out of your cars to assist your children as we have staff happy to ensure they get safely into your vehicle.
Name Signs
To make the Pick-Up Zone operate more effectively can we ask that you have the name of your child/ren clearly and largely displayed on your dash. We are more than happy to make these signs up for you, just let the ladies in the office know or the staff on Pick-Up Zone duty, you need a sign and we will get this to you ASAP.
